Turning 50 in style in Somerset

February 18, 2018

Our favourite kind of private dining events are those where a group of friends and family get together to enjoy delicious food and fine wine in style. Sounds perfect doesn't it?

Last week, in a stunning barn conversion in Somerset, Two Simmering Pans set up to provide a 4 course meal for 20 guests in order to celebrate a joint 50th birthday party.

Bubbles and nibbles

We laid the table on arrival and took care of everything throughout the evening. Sparkling wine was served as the guests came down for dinner, Nye Timber is a lovely English vineyard - we urge you to try their wine!

For the peckish, canapés were served and included:

Wholegrain mustard & Parmesan scones with cream cheese and bacon

Beetroot cured gravadlax blini with black pepper creme fraiche

Manchego and TSP tomato chilli jam paratha bites

Time for tea (or 'dinner' if you aren't from Somerset!)

Guests were seated and the wine poured, then dinner began and Executive Chef Oliver really got creative. It's always a challenge cooking in an unfamiliar kitchen, but chef hire services are our speciality and this birthday dinner party was off to a flying start.

On the menu for Mr Baker and his guests, the below:

Pan fried scallops with pea puree, samphire, black pudding and minted mash

Slow roasted cider pork belly with braised haricots and mustard cream sauce

~

Limoncello and citrus sorbet

~

Barbury duck breast, parmentier potatoes, blackcurrant jus and grilled peaches

Fillet of beef with artichoke bairgoule, shallot marmalade and oxtail jus

~

Whisky & walnut tart, tonka bean ice-cream and candied walnuts

Brown sugar meringues, hazelnut praline and bitter chocolate sauce

I'm hungry writing this! The evening went smoothly and the guests made all the right noises about their menu choices, we really enjoyed providing our private chef and waitressing expertise.

When you receive such kind words the following day, we know all the hard work in preparation has been worth while:

"Oliver. Thanks again for Saturday night, the food was superb. Everyone absolutely loved it and commented on how incredibly professional both you and Laura were.

I have eaten in many fine restaurants through my job and travels and your food was right up there with the best - creative, beautifully presented and of course absolutely delicious.

Thanks again and our friends have pledged we will be back for a reunion when we can, we'll be in touch"
